Asbury Church

A Lighthouse to Our Community

We believe that the Lord has given us this vision: "To be a lighthouse to our community."  To some it may be a nice slogan, but to us, it is a mission, a mandate, a clear sense of purpose and direction.  Asbury Church does not exist as a religious club or a special interest group, but rather we are one expression of the larger worldwide Body of Christ functioning to bring the good news of Jesus Christ to our community using whatever means are available.  Our constant message, therefore, is "welcome!"  This is a place where you can easily become involved, build relationships, and reach your full potential in Christ!

Being a lighthouse to our community means OUTREACH!  Because of our vision, we support missionaries and ministries on both foreign soil and in scattered parts of our own country.  Most of our outreach is directed toward the Lansing and greater Tompkins County areas that we may touch our community with the love of Christ.  Our pastoral staff is here to serve you and pray with you.  Our youth and children's ministries are designed to reach those age groups with an exciting, relevant message.  In addition, most of our ministries exist for the ultimate purpose of outreach, so that people who may not otherwise attend a church would find a reason to come and freely discover the grace of God.

Being a Lighthouse to Our Community means FELLOWSHIP.  You will quickly notice that we are a relationship-oriented church.  Jesus taught that one of the simplest ways to draw others into faith was for His followers to love one another (John 13:35).  While no church can claim to be completely absent of strife, we do strongly emphasize whole-hearted love for one another, even as Christ loves us (John 15:12).

Being a Lighthouse to Our Community means TEACHING.  As you get to know us, you will probably notice we place a great deal of emphasis on teaching and preaching the Word of God to adults and children.  Sunday School for all ages is a priority!  Our aim is to teach and equip believers with the spiritual and practical tools necessary to live a victorious holy life, and to lead others to do the same.  We believe the people should not be used to build the church, but the church should exist to build the people.

Being a Lighthouse to Our Community means WORSHIP.  It is our prayer that this be a church that places great importance on a personal commitment to following Christ, for this is worship.  We also want to consistently create an atmosphere where people can come together to celebrate and magnify God together.  As we do, we eagerly anticipate the manifestation of God's Spirit in our services to strengthen, encourage and comfort the body of Christ.

Being a Lighthouse to Our Community means PARTICIPATION.  Asbury church relies heavily on the involvement of its congregation. We encourage each person who attends to be actively involved in the church in four important ways.  First, pray for your church and its leaders.  Second, financially support the church through the Biblical pattern of tithes (the first tenth of our income – Mal. 3:10) and offerings.  Third, attend faithfully rather than sporadically.  And last, serve in one of the many ministries of the church.

Asbury Church is a praying church.  We believe that God has great things in store for our church.  We believe that through personal and corporate prayer we will see God's power and His desire displayed in this church.  It is about His Kingdom and His will, His glory and His honor.  Our confidence is such: Things happen when Asbury Church prays!

Why not join us in this great mission!
